Application:
Zirconium nitride is a hard ceramic material similar to titanium nitride and a refractory material similar to cement . Therefore, it is used in refractory materials , cermets and laboratory crucibles . When applied using the physical vapor deposition coating process, it is commonly used to coat medical devices , industrial components (especially drills ), automotive and aerospace components, and other components that are susceptible to high wear and corrosive environments Floor. When alloyed with aluminum, the electronic structure develops from the local octahedral bonds of cubic ZrN to twisted, more complex bonds and higher hardness as the aluminum content increases.
Zirconium nitride has been proposed for use as fuel tank liners in rockets and aircraft .
